Generalizations of Interval Graphs

چکیده

Interval graphs arose in the nineteen fifties and have become a staple of graph theory, both for their appealing applications and for their rich mathematical structure yielding elegant characterizations and efficient algorithms. Recently, interval graphs have naturally appeared in the context of constraint satisfaction problems. Progress in understanding what structures make CSP’s tractable suggests generalizations and analogues of interval graphs. I will discuss obstruction characterizations and recognition algorithms for these generalizations. Applications to the CSP dichotomy problem will also be mentioned. This is joint work with Tomás Feder, Jing Huang, and Arash Rafiey. ∗School of Computing Science, Simon Fraser University

On the Classes of Interval Graphs of Limited Nesting and Count of Lengths

In 1969, Roberts introduced proper and unit interval graphs and proved that these classes are equal. Natural generalizations of unit interval graphs called k-length interval graphs were considered in which the number of different lengths of intervals is limited by k. Even after decades of research, no insight into their structure is known and the complexity of recognition is open even for k = 2...

Tenacity and some other Parameters of Interval Graphs can be computed in polynomial time

In general, computation of graph vulnerability parameters is NP-complete. In past, some algorithms were introduced to prove that computation of toughness, scattering number, integrity and weighted integrity parameters of interval graphs are polynomial. In this paper, two different vulnerability parameters of graphs, tenacity and rupture degree are defined. In general, computing the tenacity o...

Bounded Representations of Interval and Proper Interval Graphs

Klav́ık et al. [arXiv:1207.6960] recently introduced a generalization of recognition called the bounded representation problem which we study for the classes of interval and proper interval graphs. The input gives a graph G and in addition for each vertex v two intervals Lv and Rv called bounds. We ask whether there exists a bounded representation in which each interval Iv has its left endpoint ...

Trapezoid Graphs and Generalizations, Geometry and Algorithms

Trapezoid graphs are a class of cocomparability graphs containing interval graphs and permutation graphs as subclasses. They were introduced by Dagan et al. [3]. They propose an 0(n2) algorithm for chromatic number and a less efficient algorithm for maximum clique on trapezoid graphs. Based on a geometric representation of trapezoid graphs by boxes in the plane we design optimal, i.e., O(n log ...

The robust vertex centdian location problem with interval vertex weights on general graphs

In this paper, the robust vertex centdian  location  problem with uncertain vertex weights on general graphs is studied. The used criterion to solve the problem is the min-max  regret criterion. This problem  is  investigated  with objective function contains $lambda$  and  a polynomial time algorithm for the problem is presented. It is shown that the vertex centdian problem on general graphs i...
